MADEMOISELLE KIM

About me
Mademoiselle Kim (born July 20th, 1976) is a French self-taught figurative painter based in Paris, France. Her paintings, often small in scale, generally depict real people. She explains, "When someone inspires me, I paint them. Sometimes it could be a random person I meet, a lover, an artist I like, but most times I choose to portray people in my surroundings."
Her expressive portraits are known for their emotional intensity and haunting quality. Most of her works are naïve close-up headshots created with oil pastels, characterized by visibly pronounced lines and vibrant colors. Kim's artistic style draws inspiration from renowned artists such as Paula Modersohn Becker, Alice Neel, Sher-Gil, Chantal Joffe, Suzanne Valadon, Charlotte Salomon, and Modigliani. Her intimate portraits are stylistically simple yet visually complex.
She often references a quote by Modigliani that resonates with her approach: "When I know your soul, I will paint your eyes. With one eye you are looking at the outside world, while with the other you are looking within yourself."
Kim also works as an indie film producer.
